The first visit after hospital discharge is a time for the pediatrician to meet the baby and ensure both the parents and baby are adjusting to their new routines. We review the hospital records for any concerns that came up during pregnancy and delivery as well as look out for common problems, like jaundice. A full history is completed including pregnancy, delivery, family and social history. A physical exam is done and the baby is weighed and measured. Most babies lose weight in the first days but will gain it back by the second week of life. Depending on the provider’s and parent's concerns we may see your baby back in a few days or one week. Please bring hospital discharge paperwork with you to this appointment.
