Their Future is so Bright they Have to Wear Shades!😎

Some might not remember the song, but the message is true.  Eye protection is a must all year round to prevent harmful UV damage to your eyes and your children’s.  Celebrate 🕶️National Sunglasses Day 🕶️with a protective pair of shades for your little one.

Look for lenses that provide 99 to 100 percent UVA and UVB protection or marked as having UV400 rating.

Choose sunglasses that fit well and stay in place and cover the skin around your child’s  eyes to minimize the light that enters from the top, bottom and sides of the lenses.

Sand and water are reflective surfaces that increase UV exposure.  If your child spends time on the beach or in the water this summer, consider sunglasses with polarized lenses.

Here are a few additional sun reminders from the American Academy of Pediatrics:

*Keep infants younger than 6 months out of direct sunlight, protected by the shade of an umbrella.

*Make sure children over 6 months always wear sunblock, protective clothing, sunglasses and a hat with the brim facing forward.

*Be especially careful to help your child avoid sun exposure if he or she uses topical agents or takes medications that your pediatrician tells you make skin more sensitive to UV rays.

*Try to avoid or minimize your child’s sun exposure between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m., when the sun’s rays are at their peak.

*Because clouds reduce UV rays by only 20% to 40%, kids should wear sun protection even when it’s cloudy outside.

*Reapply sunscreen after swimming or exercise.
